Turning value into care: Real-life lessons from Central Europe

The Health Labs4Value project, implemented by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia – MedTech Slovenia and the Jesenice General Hospital with the support of the Slovenian Health Insurance Institute, successfully connects 11 partners from six European countries.
Through collaboration among key stakeholders, we demonstrate that joint development brings innovative solutions for digital transformation and value-based healthcare (VBHC).

At the conference we will showcase:

  • five pilot innovations from five countries,
  • the launch of the international Health Labs4Value network,
  • perspectives from policymakers, healthcare providers, and MedTech companies.

Hans Bax MedTech Europe short introductory VBHC presentation

Hans Bax since February 1st supports Medtech’s Market Access & Economic Policies team on (MEAT) Value-based Procurement. He is holding over 25 years of (international) experience in procurement and supply chain management, especially in health care provider organisations. Before joining Medtech he has been representing the GDEKK, a Cologne-based healthcare GPO, holding responsibility for all Dutch activities and was head of procurement at the University Medical Center Groningen (Netherlands). Besides supporting the MEAT Value-based Procurement project, he is a lecturer on Public Procurement and Tendermanagement at NEVI, the Dutch Association for Purchasing Management.
Dr. Mirna Macur (Slovenian Agency for Quality) Slovenian context

Dr. Mirna Maur is a sociologist, associate professor for research methods. She works in Slovenian Quality Health Care Agency. She’s responsible for collecting and analysing quality indicators reported by health care providers, coordinating Slovenian PROMs and analysing national patient satisfaction survey.
Prof. Dr. Sally Lewis – keynote speech focusing on the practical aspects and implementation of VBHC, with real-life examples from her experience

Sally Lewis, the founder of Kintsugi International, is a distinguished leader in the field of value-based healthcare (VBHC). With a remarkable career spanning 30 years as a general practitioner, medical leader and policy advisor, Sally has dedicated her career to transforming healthcare systems worldwide. As the former National Clinical Director for Value-Based and Prudent Healthcare in NHS Wales and the founder of the internationally recognised Welsh Value in Health Centre, she has pioneered the implementation of VBHC, making substantial contributions to global healthcare improvements. Her work has been recognised by many institutions including the World Economic Forum, Harvard Business School, Bertelsmann-Stiftung, OECD, HTAi and the Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association. She teaches internationally on the principles of value-based healthcare, from undergraduates to executive education.

Health Labs4Value in practice: 5 solutions developed as part of the project
Only the five pilot solutions will be presented here. Focus should be placed on the use of the Living Lab methodology and the experiences gained from it. The technical aspects should not be the only thing presented.

  • Spinal Cord Solution - Developed in the Czech Republic, this solution focuses on improving spinal cord treatment and management  - Helena Juraskova and Vendula Machackova
  • Improved Case Management of Hospital - This solution, developed in Hungary, aims to enhance hospital case management processes - Hungarian hospital (TritonLife Group) Péter Baán, director of strategy and network development.
  • Digital Signature - A solution from Poland that involves the implementation of digital signatures to streamline healthcare documentation – Bartosz Całka MA, Clinical Teaching Hospital CSK
  • ActiveTEP: Digital App for Pre- and Post-Operative Care in Hip Replacement Surgery – developed in Germany - Ruby-Rebecca Müller(Project Manager at Carus Consilium Sachsen (CCS)
  • Health Lord - A Digital Tool Supporting Patient Rehabilitationfor better home care before starting the rehabilitation – solution developed in Slovenia – Anja Jovanović Kunstelj dr. med.
